Beautification Matrix

This matrix uses data-driven recommendations to suggest equitable and community-based beautification implementations for various projects in Oklahoma City, OK. For best results, this matrix is to be used by a trained OKC stakeholder.

People

Through the Beautify OKC engagement process, it was determined that residents prefer beautification designed around and for people. The top response in our community survey was for more beautification where people live. Additionally, residents believe one of the strongest reasons for beautification is to anchor community gathering spaces.

Residents of Oklahoma City are proud of places that have been intentionally designed to gather and spend time. Scissortail Park, Myriad Gardens, and local districts were consistently selected as locations they are most proud of in Oklahoma City. Residents have a strong desire to build a friendly, welcoming community that supports local businesses and tourism.

Sustainable

Residents and city stakeholders prefer durable, bang-for-your-buck, low-maintenance beautification projects. These projects have low maintenance cost and effort, and once implemented, sustainable projects require little to no maintenance and thrive in Oklahoma’s climate, including unpredictable weather events.

Purpose

Beautification can be designed to serve a function rather than only improve appearances. Residents want projects that improve quality of life, create or strengthen community, and are purposefully and strategically implemented.

Connection

Residents are proud of Oklahoma City’s local districts; however, they want beautification in the “in-between”. Specifically, people want beautification that connects districts and trails and creates beautiful, green routes for multiples modes of transportation.
